Boomse tegel
In Belgium, Boom tiles are a household name. The clay from the municipality of Boom near Antwerp gave deep red tiles that were fired in field kilns in the 19th century. Extracting the oxygen from the kiln also produced blue braised tiles.

Red and blue braised tiles in many sizes
Boom tiles are available in a number of square and rectangular formats but are never larger than 25x25cm.
Handmade in Belgium
These Boom tiles are still completely handcrafted as they were a century ago.The tiles are formed in wooden molds and dry in the open air for several weeks before going into the ring oven. The blue braised tiles are red tiles that have passed a second time in a braising kiln.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
These tiles are made by an artisan brickmaker in the Boom region of Belgium.
The raw material for these facing bricks is clay from their own clay pit. They are pressed by hand into wooden molds and then dried in open air for several weeks. The bricks are fired in one of the last Belgian ring kilns.Since the tiles dry in open air, they are only worked during the summer period. To get blue braised tiles, they have to go into the kiln a second time during which the suet dust is extracted, giving the red tiles their typical blue-gray color. In an artisanal ring kiln, the temperatures are unevenly distributed. The closer to the heat source, the darker the tile.
All sizes between 10x10cm and 25x25cm are possible.Rectangular tiles and customization are also possible.
The colors available are orange-red and blue-smoked.To get an even deeper red color, the tiles can be treated with linseed oil after installation.
The darker varieties, fired at a higher temperature, can also be used outdoors.
If there is stock these can be with you within the week.If no stock, you will have to wait for spring before production starts again.
Use a natural, nourishing mop soap for standard floor maintenance.
